SUPER WARM WINTER HAT with Attached cowl

This is my crochet version of a hat my niece had from her grandmother who made it for her daughter . ( This is for he brother ) Her hat was knitted but I don`t like to knit as much as I like crocheting so I just worked it up in crochet . This is so nice and warm because it covers most of the face yet open enough so you can easily see and breath easily and the neck stays warm because of the added cowl on the bottom .

When I had my 9 yr old son try it for size , he said he wants one just like it !

I`ll be making another this week and will write out the pattern for anyone that is interested in making one.

_______________________________________________________________
HDC - half double crochet
slip stitch to join
FPDC  - front post double crochet(you tube has a great step by step tape on this )
BPDC - back post double crochet

I am attempting to write this pattern ... in my own words because I am no pattern writer ...If there is anything you do not understand just leave me A comment and I will try to clarify my meaning as best as I can . :)

row 1. chain 3 and HDC in the first chain X 8 ,  slip stitch  to join , chain  2( do not turn )

row 2.   - HDC in same stitch , 2HDC in each stitch around, slip stitch to join , chain 2 ( do not turn )

row 3. - HDC in same stitch ,* HDCin next stitch , HDC  in next stitch, 2HDC in next stitch * repeat to end of row , slip stitch to join ,chain 2 ( do not turn)

row 4. HDC in same stitch ,* HDCin next stitch , HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch, 2HDC in next stitch * repeat to end of row , slip stitch to join ,chain 2 ( do not turn)

row5. HDC in same stitch ,* HDCin next stitch , HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch, 2HDC in next stitch * repeat to end of row , slip stitch to join ,chain 2 ( do not turn)

row 6. HDC in same stitch ,* HDCin next stitch , HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch, 2HDC in next stitch * repeat to end of row , slip stitch to join ,chain 2 ( do not turn)

row 7.HDC in same stitch ,* HDCin next stitch , HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch,HDC  in next stitch, 2HDC in next stitch * repeat to end of row , slip stitch to join .

NOW you start to work on the round ....(working front and back loops ) a HDC in each stitch till you have worked 5 inches from the middle of the circle .(top of hat )

Chain 2 and turn, work HDC in each stitch around leaving 15 stitches unworked ,* chain 2 , turn  , HDC in each stitch around *    *repeat till you have worked 3 inches (that is your face opening )

chain 15 , HDC in 1st Stitch across , continue working HDC in each stitch including the 15 chain stitches from previous row ,* slip stitch to join ,chain 2 turn , DC in each stitch around* repeat till you work 2 1/2 inches from face opening

Now we are at the neck part ( we want to get it tighter to give it shape ... I used FPDC and BPDC by working 2 stitches together at a time ... that gives it a nice elastic feel  )

(If you didn`t want to use the BPDC and FPDC for this you could justHDC and decrease every 3rd stich for first 2 rows then just HDC

chain 2 ,*work 2 of the stitches together  with a FPDC and next 2 stitches together with a BPDC * repeat till u reach the end of row..slip stitch to join chain 2 turn  repeat same stitches across the row till u worked 2 inches

WORK ON THE ROUND  2HDC in each stich continue  one round then justHDC around till you have worked a total of 3 1/2 inches from neck . slip stich  knot a few times cut the yarn  and weave  the ends .

This pattern may be used for personal use  only but is not to be photocopied ...please just link to this page.

Thank you :)

Floppy hat for my niece Emily

Emily with her new Floppy hat

I made this floppy hat for my niece Emily . She looks so adorable with it .

I love the color on her . I will definitely have to make some more in this color . This particular yarn made the hat kinda floppy because it can not be work in any way to give it more shape so when you see the hat its like eh and you kinda just look away but If you give it a chance and have the child try it on , you will be amazed at how pretty it can look when wearing it .

Dont judge by the first look when looking at any handmade items .  Go ahead and ask to try them on .

Cream & Pink  Colored Hat

I feel the winter in my bones so it is hats , hats , and more hats !  I can`t get my hands to stop working in this cool weather ! I love it :)

The flower for this hat took almost as long as making the hat itself , but the flowers are my signature to all my creations so I take care in trying to make each one look different  and if I fail with the first try , I keep trying till I get one that I love . It may sometimes take me 10 tries but the end result is always worth it for me .

I owe all my inspiration for these HATS  to Baby Emily , Carolina , Daniella , And baby Liya ( whom I haven`t even met yet ! , But a picture says a thousand words :) )

I wonder what the next hat will be ? I can`t wait myself ! I have been thinking Xmas colors . Time will tell .

If you have any ideas about color schemes or styles ,  jot me a comment and let me know !

Hat done on a loom

Hat done on a round loom

An up close look of the stitch on the round loom

I found a set of 5 looms on sale for $4.99 last year and just could not pass them up , I had never worked on these round looms before so I was not sure what to expect. The end result is amazing , It looks so professional and I love that you can make them double thick so they are very warm for those very cold days . You can also make them double sided in 2 different colors (reversible ) I will be playing with them more  in the coming weeks .

Its amazing how quick it works up , but I do tend to get bored of the repetition in the stitch . This is great to make someone a quick gift , when time is of the essence.

It actually looks like it has been done on a machine .

crochet baby hat

Green/White baby Hat

top view of the popcorn stitch (flower) .

ear flaps to keep baby warm .

I finished this last night .
I have a baby shower to go to this weekend
so I will add this on the box instead of a ribbon and bow .
I made the top with a popcorn stitch just to give
it its unique look .
