Standard Measurements Chart

I came across this and thought I would share with anyone who needs measurements .

The following text is a copy of the US National Knitting and Crochet Standard Measurements Chart

The measurements contained in this chart are ACTUAL BODY MEASUREMENTS. You will have to add ease.

Content:
A simplified instruction system for hand-knitters and crocheters developed by joint committees representing the industry and trade and consumer publications. All the committees together -- Terminology, Abbreviations, Graphics, Visuals and Sizing-- constituted, in effect, a national standards committee.

Body Measurements for the Development of Patterns These are minimum BODY measurements to be used as guidelines for sizing knit and crochet garments. They are not meant, in all cases, to be used as is. EASE FOR FIT AND DESIGN CHARACTERISTICS MUST BE ADDED.
They are based on the voluntary standards of the National Bureau of Standards and are "average". It is still advisable to include in instructions :or to length desired" to allow for individual fit.

Sizing - Measurements

The Measurements Standards Committee has established to sets of sizing guidelines. One is for use when giving the size of a garment in instructions. The other is more comprehensive and is for use in the development of individual sizes for specific garments.

All sizes are given in bust/chest measurements. The ;measurements for boys and girls have been combined into one overall children's size. Baby sizes are given with the addition of weight.

All sizes are based on the voluntary standards as set forth by the National Bureau of Standards, U.S. Department of Commerce, and relate to those measurements used by all major pattern companies.

It is further recommended that:
All instructions be given for specific sizes. Indefinite terminology, especially small, medium and large is not to be used alone.
If the term "small" is used, a specific size must also be given, e.g., Small-size 6
Group sizing may be used but measurements should be given for the largest size in the group. e.g., Size 6-8 will have measurements for size 8.
Instructions are to be given for a finished bust size. If at all possible the publication or instruction book should have a body measurement chart. Thus, a particular instruction would say "Finished bust size 40" for a size 12. The body chart would state that a size 12 is a 34" bust, thus allowing
the consumer to know that that specific design and size has 6" ease.

Wherever possible, with each instruction or set of instructions, include the phrase, "TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE" in upper case or bold-faced

row 2... ***trebble in 1st stitch twice and 2 trebble stitches in the next and continue making 2 trebble stitches in each stitch across (16 stitches) chain 3 and turn

row 3( increase every other stitch ) .. ***trebble in 1st stitch , 2 trebble stitches in next stitch .....*** follow till the end of row chain 3 and turn

row 4(increase every 3rd stitch ) .. ***treble in 1st stitch , trebble in 2nd stitch , 2 trebble in 3rd stitch ....*** follow to the end of row chain 3 and turn

trebble is used for the entire shawl ...

row 5 .... your increase is every 4th stitch ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 6...your increase is every 5th stitch ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 7...your increase is every 6th stitch ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 8 ...your increase is every 7th stitch ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 9 ... your increase is every 8th stitch ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 10 ...your increase is every 9th stitch ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 11 ...your increase is every 10th stitch ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 12 ...your increase is every 11th stitch ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 13 ...your increase is every 12 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 14 ...your increase is every 13 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 15 ...your increase is every 14 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 16 ...your increase is every 15 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 17 ...your increase is every 16 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 18 ...your increase is every 17 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 19 ...your increase is every 18 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 20 ...your increase is every 19 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 21 ...your increase is every 20 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 22 ...your increase is every 21 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 23 ...your increase is every 22 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 24 ...your increase is every 23 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 25 ...your increase is every 24 stitches ...chain 3 at the end and turn

row 26 ...your increase is every 25 stitches ..slip stitch

depending on what yarn you are using , you may want to add a scalloped edging at the bottom ...I didn`t do that with this because I used this textured yarn at the bottom and therefore did not need it.....you can also use fringe to the bottom .

A simple scallop is doing *single crochet in your 1st 3 stitches then do 3 double crochet in the next stitch * follow that pattern to the end and just slip stich and sew in your yarn end

For the collar , I just crochetted it on ...My collar is a total of 60 stitches ...count back from your center 30 stitches and start trebble stitches for a total of 60 stitches ..chain 3 and turn ...trebble every stitch making sure you do not miss your last stitch and your very 1st stitch because that is what will form your collar shape .I made 8 rows ...you can make more if you like a larger collar.

I also added ties right where the collar starts by doing a chain as long as I wanted it and then single crochet it so its thicker .
